The main AOE project for 2010/2011 is the Expedition Las Americas which will take our team on an extreme, grand scale adventure which will challenge our skills, abilities, and vehicles to the MAX! The AOE team will travel over land and sea, crossing two continents and 22 countries, and across every kind of terrain and climates imaginable. The Americas is a land of superlatives with unsurpassed geology, culture, archaeology, and natural beauty with many hidden secrets found only beyond the paved roads. The Americas has a rich history, long before European settlements with vast highly organized civilizations like the Maya, Inca, Aztec, and Olmec which built some of the mightiest empires of all times. They had a vast knowledge of astrology, engineering, medicine, geometry, and textiles. |

During our expedition, our team plans to experience the full range of activities that that the exotic regions offer such as: 4-wheeling, water rafting, trekking, mountain biking, rock climbing, ice climbing, glacier trekking, dog sledding, kayaking, paragliding, and archaeological explorations.

Outback Challenge, Australia ’08 NEWS |
This year, the AOE team raced, for the first time, in the Outback Challenge, Australia, an international off-road racing endurance challenge with 55 competitors. The team was represented by the only Jeep JK in the race which was driven by Jeanette Garcia. This is a 9 day endurance race which takes place in the beautiful but very harsh Australian Outback, near the town of Broken Hill. The teams must be self-sufficient which implies carrying food, camping gear, spare parts, tools, water, and fuel for the entire race. The teams cannot receive outside assistance or penalty points are given. The race is a combination of circuit racing, obstacle courses, navigation, rally, and winching competitions, all done in extreme terrains such as mud, rocks, sheer cliffs, sand, deep water crossings. |

This was a fantastic event where we learned a lot from the most experienced teams. The camaraderie among the competitors and the warm, generous hospitality of the Australians is what made this experience so special. Our team encountered some mechanical breakdowns and finished in 35th place of the 55. In this type of challenge, it was an accomplishment to just finish the event, especially being the first time to participate.
